I don't know about them listening, but I do know Google(YouTube in particular) and Amazon, kick me hints as to videos and merchandise(from my web searches)….I wonder too if the reason for Facebook banning me since this past May might have do do with my ad blocker(uBlock Chrome Extension, instead of my rather nasty post's concerning @….LOL) P.S.:uBlock works very nicely on YouTube except where the advert is within the video….

why wouldnt anybody enforce wiretapping laws…think about that real hard and you will understand why this goes on and on…the problem for these third parties is inevitable greed…picture your data as a lemon…they are gently squezzing it and getting lemonanade…making money…but guess what …you can squezze it harder and get even more juice …then you can make money off the rind…maybe sell the seeds …thats when we will really notice and then the big business will be protecting your data…for a fee of course lol

I was watching a movie yesterday on tv (the tv was not connected to internet) while scrolling youtube. The review for that specific movie came up my youtube suggestion. It happened so many times I find this terrifying.

If different data is collected from you in different ways, sold in different ways and thus analyzed in different places in different ways, then you get a broad spectrum of different contexts about you. These findings are also resold or used. Mixed with a bit of self-learning AI, there are anomalies every now and then that produce insights we didn't even know about ourselves. I hope that such complex insights into individuals have not become standard in some large companies. Then it probably wouldn't be the obvious "advertising failures" like penis length for women that cause the mishap, but these strangely accurate coincidences that many talk about. Because then the algorithms would have proceeded too "carelessly", so that the consumer becomes suspicious. Creepy and hopefully only conspiracy theory! In any case: Those responsible are the companies and especially their "IT departments" who have to answer to the public and first of all explain to us what they are doing with our data!

My bf and I have tested this theory over a month. I would mention how much I love tacos while fb was open. Never texting nor typing tacos once. Within 2 days I had :I love taco" ads for merchandise on my fb feed. We tried it with a video game title and he had ads for that very game the next morning. There were other "coincidences " throughout that month. I deleted my fb and am no longer on social media.

I've just contributed to this because what my targeted ad was arguably an extremely unlikely advert in the first place.

As a child and a teenager, I was a big fan of Aaron Carter, a teen pop star at the time. This was in the late 90s and mid 2000s. I don't know what his reception was in America (where he's from) but I've never seen anything in relation to him within the UK… except his music use in the Nickelodeon movies like Jimmy Neutron.

Nowadays, he's known far less. He isn't a trending star. I still love his music, mostly for nostalgia's sake, but I know he was never popular.

I was talking to my friend about a year ago, maybe slightly more, in her room, at her computer. He just happened to come up as a random topic and I wondered what he was doing now. We searched it on her PC and read some things, watched a couple of videos etc etc.

Now, I had my phone on me. A new one. Connected to a new facebook account. My old phone broke and I wanted a blank slate to work with in terms of facebook. Not once did I touch it during this conversation. It was far easier to search it on her PC.

Later that day, I checked my messages and Aaron Carter appeared as one of my ads.

How does a former teen pop star, with very little trending power in the UK, turn up LITERALLY just after a verbal conversation about him? Furthermore, and I forgot to mention this in my submission, I was the only one to receive this ad. I messaged my friend about it and she never received it herself. Despite searching through her PC, has my phone somehow picked up that it was I who was a fan, and who wanted to know how he was doing? Does it recognise my voice?

well yea no shit, you are being tracked on the web and ads will be targeted towards you based on the information that you willingly provide them just by doing anything on the web. this should be common knowledge. that is the price you pay for convenience. not to mention these services are provided for free. a lot of platform give you the option to turn off targeted ads, not log search results, watch history, etc. if you use their services, google, facebook, etc. is obviously going to know a lot about you. you can always look at the eula.

I've had this phenomenon happen to me a few times. Its eerie and always feels very invasive. My girlfriend thinks I'm being paranoid and jokes about it but I've since heard many people discuss this.

We're being marketed to all over the place and it's our phones that are betraying us.
